About ARM
ARM – Águas e Resíduos da Madeira, S.A. is a publicly owned regional company responsible for managing the multi-municipal water and waste systems in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Operating under a public service and exclusivity regime, ARM handles the supply, treatment, and distribution of water, including public supply, irrigation, and wastewater, as well as the collection and management of solid waste across several municipalities of Madeira and Porto Santo.
The company is committed to sustainability, transparency, innovation, and social responsibility, working to ensure efficient resource use, environmental protection, education, and equal access to services throughout Madeira.
Project goals
- Improve the user experience with a new and accessible website design
- Provide updated institutional and governance information
- Showcase service-level statistics, performance reports, and regulatory documents
- Create a centralized location for contact information of locations and services
- Provide easy news and documentation publishing by staff
- Create educational initiatives scheduling following custom services availability calendar
- Provide citizen public anomalies reports with map and geolocation tracking
- Provide status report of public water service availability and repairs
- Digitize existing physical processes to allow clients to interact with services online
Our approach
The project began with an intensive data gathering and processing phase to define the new website structure. For this project, we worked in collaboration with one of our local design partners, No Words Productions.
Both teams joined forces to process a large volume of content and develop a clean, functional interface that reflects ARM’s public mission.
Website implementation involved multiple custom page types, many of which are powered by a custom-built document management system, while others support dynamic content, including maps, interactive forms, and video embedding.
The final steps included analytics integration and deployment on a high-performance hosting platform, ensuring stability and fast load times. After publishing, quality assurance focused primarily on improving SEO indexation and optimizing redirects for old link references.
Outcome
The new ARM website significantly improved how users access essential water and waste services across Madeira.
With clearer navigation and a more intuitive structure, visitors can now quickly locate key information such as institutional content, service updates, interactive forms, and local contact details.
The combination of dynamic features, a modern design, and reliable performance positions the new platform as a central digital hub for both residents and professionals who rely on ARM’s public services.
