About EM Board Bombs
EM Board Bombs is a leading Emergency Medicine board review platform, founded by Dr. Blake Briggs and Dr. Iltifat Husain. Their content includes podcasts, study guides, and a premium question bank used by Emergency Medicine residents, practicing physicians, and medical students.
Originally built on Squarespace, the platform faced major limitations as its content and audience grew. We migrated and rebuilt it on WordPress, creating a scalable, efficient, and user-friendly site that improved content management, user engagement, and operational workflows.
The Challenge
The existing Squarespace site faced several constraints:
- Scalability Issues: Difficulty managing an expanding library of podcasts, study guides, and the question bank
- User Experience (UX) Constraints: A generic design that didn’t reflect the brand and made discovery harder
- Content Management Inefficiencies: Uploading and organizing content (especially audio files) was time-consuming
- Limited Marketing tools: No smooth integration with ads, email marketing, or social media
- Complex migration needs: Over 100 study guides and 140+ podcast episodes (with metadata and attachments) required transfer without data loss and SEO penalties
Project Goals
- Rebuild the platform on a flexible, scalable CMS (WordPress) with a custom optimized design
- Improve UX/UI for easier navigation and content discovery
- Streamline content management workflows for the team
- Ensure seamless data migration and preserve SEO value
- Integrate marketing tools for outreach and analytics
Old Website
The previous platform was built on Squarespace, which limited scalability, customization, and content management workflows. These constraints made it difficult to organize their growing library of podcasts, study guides, and the premium question bank.

Our Approach
We began by working closely with the EM Board Bombs team to identify their main challenges and long-term goals. Squarespace no longer supported their growing content needs, so we planned a migration to WordPress for greater scalability, flexibility, and performance.
A new information structure was designed to improve content discovery, while the interface was reimagined with a clean, modern layout that emphasized usability and brand identity.
During implementation, we built custom post types to handle podcasts and study guides, and migrated more than 240 pieces of content with full metadata and attachments. Performance optimization, SEO redirects, and marketing tool integrations were added to strengthen both user experience and outreach.
Finally, the site was tested extensively and launched on a high-performance VPS hosting environment, with full training provided to the internal team to ensure they could manage and expand the platform confidently.
Outcome
The redesigned EM Board Bombs website provided a scalable and modern platform that resolved the limitations of their old Squarespace site. With a clean interface and improved navigation, users can now search, filter, and discover content more efficiently, including cross-recommendations between podcasts and study guides.
For the internal team, streamlined content management workflows saved significant time in uploading and organizing materials, while performance optimizations ensured fast load times and reliable browsing across all devices.
The integration of marketing tools and analytics expanded outreach capabilities, enabling more targeted campaigns and better audience insights. User feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with learners praising the improved usability and accessibility of content.
Overall, the project strengthened EM Board Bombs’ digital presence, allowing them to grow their audience, deliver high-quality Emergency Medicine education, and manage their platform with confidence.
