About
Covid Madeira was the official central communication platform for the regional health authority of Madeira Island during the COVID-19 pandemic. The website provided access to official documentation and guidelines for both public and private entities, as well as the general public.
Project goals
- Create a central hub for Covid Madeira to publish health documentation and public guidelines
- Develop a news section for frequent updates and press releases
- Ensure the platform can perform reliably under high demand and traffic spikes
Our Approach
With a tight timeline and urgent public need, we adopted a minimal and fast-loading design to prioritize both speed of development and technical performance.
We launched a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) early on and continued to add features as new requirements emerged, adapting quickly to the evolving situation.
The platform experienced multiple high-demand periods, requiring active monitoring, interventions, and performance optimizations to maintain service stability.
Outcome
The Covid Madeira platform served as the official communication hub during a critical public health emergency. It consistently met performance expectations and provided timely, reliable information to the population.
An extended study on data collection and user behavior within the platform was also conducted and delivered, offering valuable insights for future public service initiatives.
The project was officially sunsetted once it was no longer required, having fulfilled its purpose during the height of the pandemic. Its contribution supported Madeira Island’s internationally recognized success as one of the first tourism destinations to recover from the global shutdown of services.
